Speed Week

One of only a few places in the world where you can go flat out on a salt lake for 12 miles.

There is a lot of technical detail involved with Land Speed Racing and then there is all the procedures to be aware of, where to go, when and what to do when you get there. These pages are provided to document some of this technical detail.

Motorcycle Records

These records are based on the results of all the motorcycles that have run at Lake Gairdner since 1990.
All motorcycles have to comply with the Motorcycle Classes as set down in the DLRA Rulebook.
Up until 2018 speeds shown were one pass records.
In 2019 the DLRA moved to two pass, average speed records.
All speeds previously attained were ratified as the benchmark for these new records.

Note: If a class shows no record listed, that class has no record set and is considered as an “Open” class with “no minimum” speed required for a new record.

Any application for amendments to Speed Trials Results or Records must be made on the Results and Records Amendment Form.

Classes / Records

The DLRA offers a large variety of classes for wheel driven cars and motorcycles. Any vehicles competing at Speed Week must comply with these specific DLRA classes to run or set a record.

Where is Lake Gairdner

Site of the DLRA Speed Trials, Lake Gairdner is located in the State of South Australia. Largest of a group of shallow depressions west of Lake Torrens in central South Australia, 240 mi (550 kilometres) northwest of Adelaide, the State capital. It measures 100 mi (160 km) long by 30 mi wide. Lying at the base of the Eyre Peninsula, the lake is a dry salt pan (playa) intermittently filled with water. Visited in 1857 almost simultaneously by Stephen Hack and Peter E. Warburton, it is named after Gordon Gairdner, former chief clerk in the Australian Department of the Colonial Office, London
